Hot 8The first Friday Free For All of the 2008-2009 season will feature New Orleans' own Hot 8 Brass Band. The band has epitomized New Orleans street music for over a decade, playing the traditional Second Line parades, hosted each Sunday afternoon by Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs, infusing their performances with the funk and energy that makes New Orleans music loved around the world. The members of the Hot 8 Brass Band were born and raised in New Orleans and many began playing together in high school. The Hot 8 Brass Band has been part of an important relief project following Hurricane Katrina. SAVE OUR BRASS! is a local grass-roots project that has brought music and instrumentsto shelters, temporary trailer parks and communities across the Gulf Coast.

Hot 8 will also perform at several outdoor locations during the First Fridays' Art Walk (7:30-10 pm) on Friday, September 5, 2008.

The Friday Free For All series features a wide variety of music, theatre and dance, and is suitable for audiences of any age. Guests are encouraged to bring a bag lunch to enjoy during lunchtime performances, except for performances in the Heilman Dining Center where meals must be purchased.

All Friday Free For All events are FREE and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required.
